#3hirty1neThankYous January 19th – Thank you, child. I don’t know you, but a picture says a 1000…you know the cliche. It’s been a rough few months for people of a darker hue. We’re assumed shady people because we’re people of a different shade. But for the last few weeks, whenever I’ve been “down,” distraught, fed up, or depressed, I’ve looked at your image. I’m not sure why, but you uplift me. Could it be the youthful exuberance you exhibit even with such a heavy load in your hands?
Could it be my vision of you sitting down with your own colored pencils, crayons, and markers to express your (incredibly accurate) feelings?
Could it be your courage in speaking on something that people 2, 4, 7x your age remain silent about?
Could it be your wisdom beyond your years even though it’s a subject matter that you shouldn’t have to experience at all?
Either way, you make me know that there’s no purpose in being “down.” Instead, I should grab my crayons and speak up. I admire you. Thank you.
