One of the most touching pieces I saw. Created by Rodin’s student and mistress after he (the old man in the front) chose to stay with his wife (the demon-looking woman in the rear) over her (the younger woman reaching but losing grip). Shortly thereafter she went into an asylum.
The Gates of Hell as sculpted by Rodin often reinterpreted in several films including Devil’s Advocate. He made miniature versions on the gates of pieces he’d individually sculpt later in life (see Rodin’s Thinker near the top). Loved this! (at Musée d’Orsay)
